The Systep director and Catholic University academic is the fourth Chilean member, joining national Applied Sciences and Technology awardees José Miguel Aguilera, Juan Asenjo and Andrés Weintraub.
Hugh Rudnick elected to the American Academy of Engineering
The National Academy of Engineering of the United States (NAE) has elected Hugh Rudnick, Professor Emeritus of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, as a foreign member. His appointment is “for his leadership in South American electric power markets, resource and transmission planning, and standards”.
Rudnick is the fourth Chilean member, joining national prizewinners in Applied Sciences and Technology José Miguel Aguilera, Juan Asenjo and Andrés Weintraub.
The NAE has more than 2,000 peer-elected members and foreign members, senior professionals in business, academia and government, who are among the world’s most successful engineers. They provide leadership and expertise for numerous projects focused on the relationships between engineering, technology and quality of life.
The mission of the National Academy of Engineering, Rudnick details, is to advance the national welfare by promoting a vibrant engineering profession and by bringing the experience and expertise of eminent engineers to bear in providing independent advice to the government on engineering and technology-related matters.
The induction ceremony for the NAE class of 2019 will take place next October 6, during the NAE annual meeting in Washington, DC.
Hugh Rudnick tells ELECTRICIDAD that this achievement “is largely due to the many undergraduate and graduate students who have worked with him in research and development, which has transcended beyond our borders”.
