The controversy over the installation of “smart” light meters was analyzed on Tuesday by Hugh Rudnick, Director of SystepChile, an academic at the Catholic University and elected member of the U.S. Academy of Engineering.
The expert reviewed the changes in household consumption habits that would result from the installation of the new meters.
“There is going to be a need to face a series of uncertainties at the distribution network level,” said the expert, who added that “the idea of incorporating intelligence into the network” seems very interesting, where one of the main elements is the smart meter.
However, Rudnick added: “I am supposedly going to be able to respond to price variations in the system in the market that could lead to a lower tariff. But are we ready for that?” questioned the Catholic University academic.
