The Electricity Coordinator rules out that there will be a considerable increase in the price of energy, thanks to the entry of renewable power plants.
(El Mercurio) The impacts of the country’s water shortage continue to affect the electricity sector. This was demonstrated in the first measurements carried out by the National Electric CoordinatorThe report was published by the National Hydrological Institute, which verified that the next hydrological year (April-March) will complete a decade of drought, considering the accumulated snow levels in the Andes Mountains, the main source of water supply for the country’s rivers and tributaries.
According to these indicators, the Maule basin – the most representative of the country and responsible for 25% of the water used – shows levels of 85% surplus, which implies that only 15% of the years included in the sample were drier. However, in other areas to the north, these levels even exceed 95%, as in the case of Rapel, or Aconcagua, which, however, have less weight in electricity generation.
